Kirsten Candland – Violin

violinist – private teacher, instructor at Desert Hills Middle/High School; Member, Southern Utah Symphony. Cofounder, Zion Youth Symphony Orchestra. Organizer, Southern Utah String Workshop.

Kirsten Candland is the director of orchestras at Desert Hills High School, Desert Hills Middle School, and Sunrise Ridge Intermediate School, including elementary morning strings. She began teaching orchestra 16 years ago in Jordan School District and has been in Washington County for 14 years. Her bachelor and master teaching degrees are from the University of Utah. Currently she helps direct Zion Youth Symphony Orchestra and has a private violin studio. She serves as Suzuki Association of Utah’s Southern Utah Violin Region Coordinator. She has studied violin with Lynnette Stewart of the Ambramyan String Quartet, Lawrence Sardoni of BYU, Dr. Terry S. Hill, and Dennis Hansen. She has played in Mormon Youth Symphony; Utah Youth Symphony, and the Rocky Mountain Youth Camerata with Jack and Ted Ashton. She grew up participating in UMEA’s All-State Orchestras, region and state festivals, music camps, and Utah Valley Youth Symphony (where she met her husband, Ed, who teaches band, orchestra, and guitar at Pine View High School). They are the parents of two violinist daughters and a one-year-old son.
