Jason Bonham
Violist – CMSSU co-director, Executive Board Member of the American Viola Society, Director of Orchestras at Tuacahn High School for the Performing Arts, CTO- St. George Now, LLC
Jason Bonham’s playing has been heard throughout the continental US and Europe.
As a recitalist, Jason has been deemed, “an extraordinary, first-class viola virtuoso” by the St. George Spectrum and his playing has been described as possessing a “full, rich sound, a solid technique with mature musicality” by eminent violin and viola pedagogue, Roland Vamos.
A former performer with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Elgin Symphony Orchestra, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic and Ars Viva Symphony Orchestra, Jason has had the opportunity to perform in concert with some of the great performers of this generation.
Jason takes a strong interest in both education and scholarship. As both an Executive Board Member of the American Viola Society and Board member/co-founder of The Chamber Music Society of Southern Utah he has devoted a significant part of his life to teaching up and coming musicians and working for the betterment of the classical community. His articles (both music and non-music related) have been published and discussed in the Journal of the American Viola Society, Time Magazine, the Wall Street Journal, NPR, and many others. While in college Jason was an ORCA scholar which covered his work in the Primrose International Viola Archives. Currently Jason is the director of orchestras at Tuacahn High School of the Performing Arts.
Jason completed his education at BYU in Viola Performance (2001) and a Masters Degree in Viola Performance at Northwestern University (2004) graduating with program honors. Jason was the winner of the BYU Concerto Competition for his performance of the Bartok Viola Concerto in 2001. He was principal of both the Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra and the Brigham Young University Philharmonic.
Currently Jason is a recitalist and teacher in the Saint George, Utah area. He is co-founder of the Chamber Music Society of Southern Utah (CMSSU) and Director of Orchestras at Tuacahn High School for the Performing Arts.
