Bonnie Romkey – Violin

private teacher; Founding member, Tedesca String Quartet

Bonnie studied under Monte Belknap, Meredith Campbell, Nell Gotkovsky, Percy Kalt, Ralph Matson (Concertmaster, Utah Symphony), Lynette Stewart (member of the Guarnari String Quartet), and Barbara Williams. She won the Huff Music Contest for 5 consecutive years, winning the overall sweepstakes in both years of eligibility. The Sterling Scholar recipient for music at Payson High in 1990, Bonnie accepted a full scholarship from the BYU music department, and in 1992 won first prize in the Utah State Fair advanced violin competition.

In addition to playing in the BYU Philharmonic under the direction of Clyn Barrus, Bonnie was a member of the BYU honors quartet coached by David Dalton, Bryce Rytting, and the Roger Drinkall – Diane Baker Duo, and toured the USA with the BYU chamber orchestra. Professionally, she played with Barlow Bradford’s Utah Chamber Artists for 8 years, was the Concertmaster in a televised Temple Square Christmas concert with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in 1998 under the direction of Craig Jessop, and recorded with L.A. East Studios for 5 years. She has played with countless chamber groups, which genre is her greatest passion.
